First venture on my vacation to Malaysia

So, here I am back from a trip to meet my internet best friend of ten years for the first time. I landed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, grabbed a cab, and headed for my room. Managed to call her from the cabbies’ cell phone shortly after I left the airport. I found the hotel and checked in, and proceeded to my room. My friend, Zee, told me of a prior arrangement she had to attend, so I didn’t expect to see her until the next day. When I got into my room, I decided to unpack and take a shower. To my surprise the doorbell rang. Doorbell? I don’t remember America having doorbells on their doors. Then it rang again, so I decided to answer the door, or go to the lobby and ask them about this ringing noise in my room. What a surprise! I could not believe my eyes. It was my best friend and Soul Sister, Zee Putra. We hugged and then talked for the longest before she called a friend and local DJ. Gilbert swung by my hotel and picked up Zee and I to take us out to dinner. After dinner he brought Zee home, and me back to my hotel.

From that day it was on, as Zee would say,”we be flowin”. She took me to the Batu Caves where we climbed those 272 steps up and 272 steps down. Remembering the look on her face as she ask me if I was sure I wanted to do this, and I was. Getting half way up those stair, I looked at her and could not stop laughing. Then I decided I’d give a monkey my soda in the can, It didn’t know how to drink it so it started ripping at the side of the can as the soda pour on the ground. Zee gives another monkey her soda and it sits there and drinks it right. we tour the upper cave and start our decent back down the stairs. More concentration to go down then to go up.

When we reach the bottom, we decide that couldn’t be all there was to it, and discovered it was not. There is a paid admission to another part of the Batu Caves, so we go in to see. Getting to the end of the lower cave there is a man taking out a boa. he ask if I wish to have my picture taken with the snake. Zee agrees with the man that I should, so I do. I have never held a snake before and my eyes in the photo prove it to be true. I think turn about is fair play, so I pay for Zee to have her picture take with the snake also. While she is holding it, I could not stop laughing. Finally we exit the caves, and now I am chasing peacocks trying to take their pictures. Meanwhile, this man who I took his picture or him in front of the waterfall was talking to me. Not paying him much attention, Zee and I start to leave when he gets her attention. He was explaining about these fish in this tank he had his feet in, about them nibbling on his feet and how relaxing it was. Zee asked me if I wanted to because she did, so here we go. Still laughing while the fish nibble on our feet the show starts. When it ended and the people were leaving the area I had six boys, one after the other take pictures with me. After the fish were done with our feet I went to take more pictures. We bought feed to give the peacocks to draw them closer too us. It worked, I was able to get some good close up shots. Waiting for us was her husband Hairul to take us to the city Kuala Lumpur .

Getting a passport

I recently took a trip to Malaysia, A trip I never dreamed would have been possible.  Getting out of the country of the United States was a lot harder than getting back in. First I had to prove who I was, well that was just a matter of getting my state issued ID. Because for me to get into another country I must provide a passport.  In order for me to get my passport I must prove not only who I am, but also prove my citizenship, and provide my own passport pictures. Citizenship? I had to prove that I was a citizen of the United States. Now there were two ways I could do this. One I could give them a certified copy of my Birth Certificate, or two I can show them my Social Security Card. I had neither and lived in a different state from which I was born. I went and got my ID from the Department of Motor Vehicles, and it arrived in less than two weeks. I ordered my birth certificate, and it arrived within two days. I tried to get my Social Security card before my ID arrived and found out that I cannot get one without an ID. WOW, really?

Anyway, needless to say it took me about three tries to finally get my passport. First try was just to see what I needed to actually get one. My second trip, I thought, I had what I needed when I took a friend with me to verify my identity. You can prove your identity with someone you have known for two years wit a valid ID or drivers licence. That worked as far as my identity, but not for my citizenship. Thankfully my ID arrived a day after taking my friend to the passport office, So I wouldn’t have to ask her to go again.  So back home I go to replan how to do this. I get home order my birth certificate, it arrives two days later, and I am set.

Armed with my passport pictures, my ID, and my birth certificate I enter the passport office. All goes well, but my plane leaves in 13 days and now they are telling me that it might take up to three week with expedited services plus overnight both ways. Just another nail biting wait for it to arrive. A week goes by and nothing, so I track the progress online. Finally it says it has been approved, Whew, now I have three days before my plane leaves, I have everything I need, bags are packed, ticket is purchased, room is booked, but no passport. Finally two days before I leave it arrives in the mail. Monday morning I leave to go get on the airplane for Malaysia.
